2016 DSAJ Buddy Walk

My goal was to get this blog published before the end of October. But now here we are sitting happily in November and it’s still struggling to come together. October is (was) National Down Syndrome awareness month. Ella, my family, friends & myself all participated in our first ever DSAJ buddy walk this year. The DSAJ is a Jacksonville based non profit organization committed to helping people with Down Syndrome achieve their full potential and helping to create a community that is educated, supportive, and inclusive of individuals with Down Syndrome.

When I received our Down Syndrome diagnosis last October our doctor immediately put me in contact with DSAJ and their director Debbie Revels. DSAJ offers a variety of support groups, classes, and literature to help support new and expecting parents whom receive a positive Down Syndrome diagnosis. While I decided I wasn’t ready quite yet to dive in to this new world we would soon be experiencing I did take note on how amazing their programs and events are. I knew once we had our baby girl that I wanted to be apart of this amazing community of people. I was so excited to create a team on behalf of my daughter Ella and have people pledge to walk with us.

The day of we ended up with 33 team mates, and I must say seeing all of our friends and family show up representing in their hot pink “team Ella” t-shirts, made my heart jump for joy. Knowing that our family and my daughter have so much love and support from so many people truly makes my soul feel some kind of way. Ella was pretty pumped as well. Cant ya tell?

Again, thank you to everyone who took the time to donate. Thank you to everyone who showed up on a Saturday afternoon to hang out with us when you could have been watching college football. It really does mean so much that we have friends and family who are willing to donate their time and resources to us. We love you guys & I promise next year will be better & I will be more prepared! Special Thank you to Aimee Martin for making all the Team T-shirts for the babies & Ashley Marie Photography for selflessly excluding yourself from all photos so you could be behind the lens!
